to italy we go.

Monday, March 21st, 2011

steve and i are off to italy on friday. we rented a little apartment in venice and i can not wait! we are planning on doing a lot of relaxing, exploring the markets, cooking, eating,  and getting lost! i  have a tradition of making myself a travel journal before a trip. i only journal while on vacation, i wish i was one of those people who kept a journal all the time…but i can not tell you how wonderful it is to be able to refer back to these little books to help me remember special moments from each vacation. i keep ticket stubs, maps, receipts, flowers, polaroids, and other momentos taped or pressed on the pages. each book becomes a little work of art!

i heart letterpress!

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

I had the pleasure of taking a two day letter press class this past weekend at montserrat college of art in beverly, ma…..and i LOVE it. This could be  a very expensive process to love, but I can’t help it.  My birthday is less then a month away…anyone want to buy me a press? a studio to put this press in? Any takers? Anybody? What I want to learn next is the polymer plate process so I can press some of my own graphics!

the  full plate of “text” printed on 140lb watercolor paper.

then I printed sections of the plate on note cards & craft envelopes.

greeting card!

they had a pretty good assortment of large wood type that I used to spell out travel….printed a bunch of these on pages from a road atlas. hopefully soon some of these will transform into journal covers.

digital + holga = love.

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

So i found a little digital magical machine! The Pocket Square Digital Camera can be purchased at Photojojo for $100. Don’t get me wrong…i love my old school plastic holga, but the truth is I don’t the spare cash lying around to buy film….let a lone to pay for it to get developed. This import from Japan may have just saved wallet….why didn’t someone think of this earlier? Let me give you the run down….

It’s not so good in low light ( I may have tried to take pictures yesterday in doors at night…what?…I was excited about my new camera!), but neither is the holga. I can’t wait for the sun to start to say out a little bit later…so I have at least a few photographing hours after work!

snow. please.

Monday, December 6th, 2010

I’m ready for some snow. Usually I wouldn’t say this, and after we’ve had it for a few weeks I’ll be ready for it to go away. But for night now I would really like a dusting of white snow on everything to make the city feel a little bit more holiday-ish.

good. friends. someday.

I found these lamps in PA while shopping with KO. I got them for a steal….I can’t remember but I think they were like $25 for the pair…marked way down. I loved the shape and the wooden neck of the lamp. Didn’t love the orange speckle so much. I sprayed them high gloss grey and I just happened to have a brown drum shade lying around. Steve made me swear that they would never enter our condo (he REALLY does not like them…even in the after stage).   I told him I would try to sell them….but we needed a side table lamp in our guest bedroom and I think they go quite well. I have a second sans shade…if anyone want to buy it off me! I think two of these in a bedroom might be too much!

fake thanksgiving.

Sunday, November 21st, 2010

The 7th annual Fake Thanksgiving was a success. For the past 7 years I have hosted a pot luck dinner party for friends a few weeks before thanksgiving. I’m now a pro at cooking a turkey…the first year I didn’t know there was a bag of “goodies” inside the turkey (woops), the second year I don’t think the oven was working properly (or I didn’t defrost the turkey totally) and we ate it a little bloody. This year was the first time hosting fake thanks in our new condo and the largest number of attendees (15), it was snug but we set three tables! I am thankful for so many great friends!
